John Lynch Sculptor CV

John Lynch Sculptor

John has  been a sculptor for over forty years and has a degree in fine arts , graduate diploma in art education and graduate certificate in design (UTS) He is Head Teacher of Central Coast Sculpture School and enjoys a balance of teaching and making sculpture. He is represented in public and private collections.

John believes that materials have innate qualities that are integral to the nature of sculpture and enable the viewer to connect with the artwork through their knowledge and cultural understanding of the media. He works and teaches techniques in sandstone, marble, timber, bronze, plaster, paper and at times, found objects and mixed-media. John finds that these materials are the best for his ideas, and particularly for his paramount concept of biophilia; a positive philosophy that promotes our role in the natural world and supports the human tendency to seek meaning. John is deeply concerned with our place and role on the planet and the cultural issues around climate change. He wants to connect with the viewer on an intellectual plane as well as aesthetically, but also enjoys humour and parody and sometimes creates work that utilises these to make a fun or witty work that easily connects with the viewer.

John has recently retired from his teaching position as head teacher art at a senior college and is endeavouring to re-launch his career as an exhibiting artist. His recent inclusion as a finalist in the Tom Bass Prize for Figurative Sculpture has been an encouraging  start to his plans.

John is a member of the National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA) and Visual Arts Coordinator for Five Lands Art Collective on the Central Coast NSW.
